WPEngine PHP 8.2 Destroys Website, Best Practices?

[ad_1]

Long story short we use WPEngine and are currently on PHP 7.4 and it will sunset at the end of November. I merged into the new 8.2 PHP and basically destroyed the website. We are using a theme that someone years before I purchased off Envato or something and has not been updated in 2.5 years. The menus are gone, all pages have missing text, the bottom widgets are gone, and the videos that are embedded are fine.

I have done the usual like activate and deactivate the plugins. Nothing really changes and if anything things break worse when deactivating them.

WPEngine suggested hiring a web developer. I don’t think that is going to fly with my boss.

I work in marketing and have a somewhat working knowledge of HTML but this is far from my forte. Luckily we are a software dev company but are stretched thin at the moment.

What are our best practices to solve this issue/s? Is buying a more commonly supported theme like Astra the way to go or is there any way to salvage what we currently have?
