WpEngine – yes / no or …?

[ad_1]

My context is that we need a couple of testing websites on which we are testing our own plugin products, developed by us. Basically build out testing environment and strategy for our developed plugins so that it will make our lives easier (both dev andQA)

Any recommendation would help!!

The main concern in testing is having an out of the box hosting/service that’s suit fit for our needs:

1. easy rollback of PHP versions for multiple PHP version tests
2. easy backup/restore of realistic testing sites so that we ensure that they work smoothly and restores are done custom – so I can restore the database how I want/need
3. easy acces to all the debug file logs in real time
4. environments which are suited for both testers and developers so anyone can roll back easily after performing tests
5. If possible to have WordPress development kit built in somehow
6. Easy and fast database access since it will be used/anysed often with each test case/scenario
7. Temporary quick cloning of a site from another site..ex: when giving a test environment to a developer to reproduce
8. Integration with GitHub? If it makes sense or if that would be possible.

I am now rushing to find the perfect host that can offer me speed and versatility when it comes to my test environments and testing strategy for our developed plugins..thanks !

  1. Big fan of Pantheon.io, not so much of WPEngine.

Full disclosure: I used to work at Pantheon, but I believe they can handle most of your criteria, especially when it comes to environments.

I’ve been a client of several hosted WP services (WPEngine, WordPress VIP, Pantheon, Flywheel), and while it has its challenges, I’ve always preferred Pantheon over others.

They use their own git VCS, but it’s pretty easy to mirror off GitHub to their VCS.

I think the biggest gotcha is the PHP version; I would imagine with most WordPress SaaS the PHP environment is going to be somewhat constrained; I think Pantheon supports various dot versions for PHP 7 and up.

If you’re interested, they also have a pretty compelling decoupled product as well (that I worked on)!

  2. I once hired [this guy]) on Fiverr to create many websites for me, from simple to complex, with very good quality. I hope it can help you.
