Hi,
When sharing a WordPress post on Patreon, a little post preview is automatically created. An example below:
https://preview.redd.it/usl01dtghzxc1.png?width=1234&format=png&auto=webp&s=66195f5ed55a4ad6c09dcc0a57490f7fcd06984b
However, the problem with the preview above specifically is that a wrong image is used in the preview. The preview is supposed to use the featured image of the post, but instead it takes a random image from within the post.
The problem is post-specific: for SOME posts, the featured image is correctly used. But for some not, without seemingly any pattern. I’ve tried four posts, only one post preview loads correctly.
I’ve contacted Patreon support, they told me that the problem is on the WordPress site and has to do with “how WordPress presents images to external platforms”. Is there a way to fix this?
Some thoughts:
1. Maybe it has to do with chronological order of the images (i.e., Patereon fetches the first image that was ever inserted into the post, or uploaded). Is it possible? And is there a way to fix this without tearing posts down and redoing them?
2. Could it be theme-specific?

Install an SEO plugin (any will do) and use the “OG tag”/Social feature – i.e. you specify an image, title and description to be used on social platforms.
