A client has Wix site they want to update, I’d prefer to rebuild it in WordPress.

Pretty much as the title says. I have never worked with Wix. My church wants to make some extensive updates to their site built on Wix. The site has main pages like “About” or “Services” that use one landing page with sub-menu items that link to anchors on that page. It’s a bad experience and I want to re-organize the site into more sensible sections and distribute the content from About and Services into separate pages for each service, etc. I also need to rebuild the header, footer, and homepage and add blog sections.

If it were just some minor updates that’s one thing, but the work I need to do is fairly extensive. As a WordPress developer, this just all seems easier (and faster) for me to rebuild the website in WordPress on a staging server than to research and learn the Wix platform and work directly on the live site.

How would you as WordPress devs handle this? Normally, I would just hand the site off to a Wix dev, but this being my Church, they really want me to handle the work. Thanks for any advice.
