A site with the given URL already exists

I could really use some help here.

Thanks for reaching out @ngnd4rk. Based on the error, and the URL example you provided, what I suspect happened was that some of your records on the Site Kit service match your previous URL (which may include the www prefix). What may have happened was that Site Kit was connected with this previous URL and then your site URL changes, without the plugin recognize this URL change. This can happen based on the different methods of changing a URL, some of which may not be immediately captured by Site Kit.

To resolve this, are you able to revert to your previous site URL which includes the www prefix? To do so, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Visit your site settings (Settings > General).
  2. Change your site address (URL) and WordPress address (URL) from https://yoursite.com to https://www.yoursite.com (replacing the yoursite.com reference with your own site URL.
    Press the save button.
  3. Attempt Site Kit setup once more after logging back into your site.

Once you are connected, I can provide you with steps on how to switch back to your site URL without the www successfully. If you’re unable to revert back to your site URL, or if you encounter any problems, please share your Site Health information and we can investigate this further.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

I changed the URL to http://www.example.com. Site Kit is successfully installed. How am I supposed to revert it back to example.com?

Excellent, thanks for the quick update. Now that Site Kit is successfully connected, you can reset the plugin (Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit). After doing so, switch back to the non www version of your site, follow the steps below (similar to the last steps):

  1. Visit your site settings (Settings > General).
  2. Change your site address (URL) and WordPress address (URL) from https://www.yoursite.com to https://yoursite.com (replacing the yoursite.com reference with your own site URL.
    Press the save button.
  3. Attempt Site Kit setup once more after logging back into your site.

After you reset while Site Kit was connected, there should be no existing site records on the service, so the steps above will hopefully allow you to proceed with your update site (without the www).

Let me know how you get on with the above, or ask if you have any questions. Thank you!

Sorry but I was not able to follow the steps. First I need to reset site kit, then I will change the URL and then I will setup site kit again. Is that correct?

Correct @ngnd4rk. When you have Site Kit connected on the www version of your site (which it sounds like you do have), you then reset the plugin (Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit). After resetting, follow the steps to change your site URL once more.

Excellent support! It worked. Thanks for your help and support. It works flawlessly.
