A suitable learning path for frontend developer

[ad_1]

Hi everyone,

I’m a system administrator working in the IT field for about 15 years now and at a point of trying to switch careers to frontend. I have a some background experience writing code in different languages like java, c#, js however I never considered myself a developer in any way. While I have different reasons for switching to frontend my one big reason is that my gf is a web and ux designer and just went full self employed, and atm she’s outsourcing all the development work to freelancers she’s working with. Our hope for obvious reasons is to try and keep it all in house, so I want to try and take over the deveopment side of it.

The projects my gf is getting can vary from fairly simple company website (most of them running on WordPress because of the ability to let clients change some content without our help) to advanced systems (running on different frameworks like react angular etc.). My current goal is to try and take over those simple company websites to begin with (sounds reasonable right?). However, the main goal is to be able to handle it all, while using outsourced help when needed.

Because being a full frontend developer was the ultimate goal I started with a couple of fullstack and frontend udemy courses I found recomendations on and mostly done with them by now. Now I’m looking for some wordpress courses. Here’s where things started getting a bit confusing… I see too many approches and ways to develop in WordPress. It is worth mentioning that my gf approach to designing for WordPress sites is giving the end users the ability to add or change some content but have it heavily restricted by the styling of the site.

I don’t want to sit through 30 hours of a “complete” WordPress course only to realize it’s designed to have minimum code interation by me and full control over the site by the end user. I want to still be very involved in the code and have as much frontend development to be ready for the road ahead.

Would love to hear any recommendations on this subject
