TLDR: what are your favourite and most affordable ways to accept debit/credit cards and PayPal payments on your WP.org site? Any other tips or advice for processing payments?
So I am building a WP.org site, hosted by DreamHost. I want to be able to accept payments for contract work, so there won’t be static prices/products, every contract will be different and there is no e-commerce functionality needed such as products needing to be marketed and shipped. just one line to input the total and the card form. WooComerce looks like it’s geared more for product sellers vs service sellers but am I missing something? Should I look further into it?
I would like to be able to safely accept credit and debit cards and have the client put in the total from the contract. That meaning I would like a form that allows them to input their card number and don’t know which gateway to use. Is there a plug-in where PayPal will process their card without them having to make/have/use a PayPal account? What kind of fees if so?
Would also like to accept PayPal, but I believe I can just embed a PayPal button. I don’t know what I dont know though, so maybe there’s a better paypal plug-in that would he better than embedding a button ( that I believe) takes the user offsite?
When I was on WP.com I signed up for stripe which had a 2.9%+.30cent fee on every transaction. Then WP took 8% on top of it with the plan I was on. Is that true for using Stripe on WP.org too?
What are your favourite payment processor plug-ins and what kind of fees do they take? Do they take international payments too? What have you learned about accepting payments that you would want to pass along? Thank you all for reading and any advice or tips you’ve got!
