Hello Everyone,
Has anyone taken a run at building an ecommerce plugin (shopping, cart, checkout, payment gateways, product management) with Advanced Custom Fields at its core? I've done a cursory look through the WP Repo, Github, etc.. but there's no sign.
If people have seen such a thing (active, or abandoned), could they point me in the direction of such projects, I would appreciate it.

I’m curious why you’d want to do this over just using WC? Just for fun? It’d be a lot of work.
Haven’t you heard? Automatic is now targeting ACF for removal from the ecosystem.

I don’t think thats a good idea. Here is why.
Checkout with Custom Fields (aka ACF) is not advisable, to say the least. You always want to do checkouts and carts in sessions or cookies, whatever sits on the users computer basically. Otherwise, you are going to start saving A TON of user data in your custom fields, which they are not made for, to be frank.
Payment Gateways: If you are from the EU or US, you are not allowed to build your own payment gateway, you are obligated to refer all data related to payment to a bank or online payment provider. There is no incentive in using ACF/custom fields for payment management.
I was thinking about the same but I noticed it will be a lot of work. Tax calculation, integrating a payments gateway, cart management, user profile, etc etc.
After that I thought about using a tool which includes all cart functionality like Snipcart but I was not happy about the design of the cart and you can not really customize it.
So I gave up on the idea, lol.
