Start creating a Website without having to enter a Domain upfront??

[ad_1]

I wanted to start designing a new website in WordPress but it asks me for a domain. My client has a domain with an old website but they don't want to shut down the old website while the new one is being created. Any help?

  1. It is a bit unclear on which platform you are starting. WordPress.com ? One thing you can do though is explore localwp (from wp engine) or Studio (from Automattic) and start building locally.
Then follow some tutorials on how to back up, export/import that created wordpress website, and when you’re good to go, make the move to replace the old website.

  2. Create an “A” record in the DNS called something like “new” or “dev”. Point that to the new hosting. Then when you’re done building the new site, use “Better Search Replace” to change the domain name.

  3. Your hosting provider has a default system domain available for your project, so definitely ask them about it! This option allows you to get started without needing to assign a specific domain right away.
