Advice on becoming a WordPress Theme Developer

[ad_1]

I recently started getting into the world of WordPress Theme Development and im feeling a bit (much) overwhelmed by how different is to just developing an html, css, php and javascript site. I really don’t comprehend the complexities of posts and the hooks and when, how and why apply them in the first place.

I’m familiar with the client interface but when it comes to developing a custom theme with custom functionalities i really don’t seem to piece it all together.

I also don’t know how to know what kind of theme should i concentrate more in: block or classic themes.

Are there any keypoints, courses(free) or websites apart from the officcial documentation that helped you become a proffessional custom theme designer?

  1. What exactly are you looking to do?

If you’re looking to create a page builder, you are up against well-funded private companies (biggest ones probably 7-8 figures of revenue), the WordPress core team which is constantly expanding on blocks and native editing, and more.

If you just want to create and sell themes, for example for a specific niche, you might as well just create layouts with the builder of your choice and save them. At that point, it’s just on you to market and sell them.

  2. Oooh this is the kind of thing I love! It tools me a long time to make it all click so I know how you feel. I’ve been doing custom themes for agencies for years. If you want to get some one on one help and explanation I would be glad to do so.

I think creating the simplest theme technically possible and building up from there would be a great way to understand how WP works and where each of the features come into play.
