Hi all,
I set up my site a while ago for free as a .wordpress.com site. My freelancing has now taken off a bit and I'm keen to upgrade to a 'normal' domain to look a bit more professional.
I'm happy to do this through wordpress and just pay for their cheapest package as I've put a lot of work into the site and am otherwise happy with it.
However, I've built up a reasonable level of backlinks/SEO and can't find a straightforward answer anywhere on whether it's possible to preserve this.
If it's not I'll stick with my current site, but I feel like it should be fairly simple! I've seen people mentioning redirects previously but don't have any idea how I'd set that up – and if you're upgrading through wordpress is this something they do automatically for you?
Any advice would be much appreciated!
TIA x

WordPress.com will automatically redirect traffic from your old *.wordpress.com to your new custom url.
You should also get set up in Google Search Console and perform a Change of Address https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9370220?hl=en
