Akismet: What’s the difference between requests vs calls?

I saw akismet’s cyber monday sale, so I went to check my very old but still active account to see if it’s a good deal. I’m on Akismet Pro (10k requests/month). That isn’t even an option in the pricing on the Akismet site. They don’t even show requests, they show calls. SO, my questions:

1. Is my Akismet plan grandfathered in?
2. What is the difference between requests and API calls?
