Apologies in advance if my description is vague – a bit new to this subject. What will be the best add-on option if I want to allow other people to set up a ‘store’ on a WordPress site I create – allowing them to sell their products? They must be able to manage their ‘store’ themselves, and in return, pay either commission and/or membership fee.

I wouldn’t advise using a theme for this – use a plugin. That way you aren’t locked in to using that theme forever. Themes = how something looks. Plugin = functionality.
