Since Ream is imploding, I want to set up a subscription service on my site.
I need to be able to post fiction books a chapter at a time and have it all stay together and in order.
I want to be able to upload games, puzzles, and other fun stuff.
Audio books are a future thing but I’d like the capability. Same for videos.
I’d like to offer annual as well as monthly subscriptions.
Community is important but I can redirect to a FB group if necessary.
I don’t have a ton of money and I expect it to start slow, so cheap is better to start. So being able to port over to a better system later might be important as well.

Depending on how your WordPress site is built, Claude Sonnet AI can build you a plugin to do this in about 45 minutes to 1.5 hrs, it could even be less with a comprehensive write-up, but it depends on complexity. I’m doing something similar but for a different use, and at one point when I didn’t write the prompt properly, it started to build me a subscription/membership plugin.
Pro is $20 a month, I’ve built 3 things and endless versions since July 4th, but do know Anthropic seems to be having a small issue right now, I don’t think they anticipated Sonnet being as popular as it has become.
Checkout Paid Memberships Pro or Ultimate Member.
I agree with u/awelevated. You’re looking for a membership site like Paid Memberships Pro (https://www.paidmembershipspro.com/) or Memberpress (https://memberpress.com/). An even better choice might be Easy Digital Downloads (https://easydigitaldownloads.com/)
Many authors serialize their books in ordinary blog posts, with access controlled with a membership plugin. It’s usually pretty easy to list chapters (posts) in publication order.
Videos can’t easily be hosted on your local server so most users choose a subscription video host like Vimeo that lets you restrict playback when embedded on your specific URL. You then embed your videos on the website in a post, online lesson, or page and restrict access to paying members.
Embedded games and audio can be managed similarly with access again controlled by membership.
One-time downloadable games and audio is even easier. Easy Digital Downloads, MemberPress, and even vanilla WooCommerce have options for protected downloads that are available only to paid members or customers.
It’s… not terribly easy to do but last year I helped a total novice do the final fit and finish on a catalog of members-only online courses for a continuing education website. They built the entire thing themselves with WordPress and only needed my help with a few final details.
