Batch process old posts from jpeg to webp – Anyone find a way yet?

I have been looking for a way to batch-process images from old posts to webp with a method that replaces these images in each post. Is that even possible? The difference between storge in years since switching to webp for everything is massive and I’d like to save some space 🙂

I have tried a number of plugins like Awww but either they did not, only compressed the jpegs in their current form (and only a little since they were all already compressed) without converting them, or added a bunch of webp images to every directory but never updated the posts related.

I’d like to find the most user-friendly and all-inclusive method possible, but it seems none of the plugins do this. They mostly just focus on future uploads of files.
