Beginner Help

[ad_1]

Hey guys! I’ve been using WordPress for a bit for a personal blog, but I’ve begun using it for a podcast and I’m trying to make things look more professional. After an agonizing two hours in which I finally just gave up, I’m wondering what, in general, I’m missing. For the past two hours, I’ve tried to get photos to stay on the left side of the page, align text with the center of those photos (without the text becoming too delineated if the browser page is made narrow), and all to no avail. Obviously, this is not how it’s being done elsewhere considering how many websites are hosted on WordPress. Is the problem with WordPress, Boldgrid IO (which I use), or with me? If it’s Boldgrid IO, tell me some better alternatives; if it’s me, tell me some places I can go to educate myself and get better; and if it’s WordPress, f— me.

  1. It’s not WP.

In vanilla WP, you add a COLUMN block, and put an image one side, text the other. Couldn’t be easier.

It may be boldgrid – I’ve never used it so don’t know. But for good themes, for starters and newbies… you can try astra, kadence, generatepress, bricksy, blockpress etc. Start WITHOUT a page-builder and get used to the gutenberg editor. If you do, you’ll find you can build almost anything with just a few extra blocks – like GenerateBlocks, or Spektra.

Finally… start by reading. A lot of people just load-it-up and build, then get lost and frustrated. WP isn’t a ‘natural thing’ you just know or can intuit your way through – it’s not WIX or one of the online ‘DIY’ platforms.
