I have my WP site hosted with cloudways. I use elementor plugin to create my site (not child theme because I dont change any code.) I always click the purple “update” in elementor when finished editing. Cloudways auto backsup my site every night. Is that enough protection for me to restore my site incase something breaks? Should I also install a backup plugin on my wordpress site? If so, why?

The backup from Cloudways should be enough. I used to also download it to my PC.
You could install a plugin like UpdraftPlus if you want the backup to be stored automatically on Dropbox or Google Drive.
