I’m volunteering for a nonprofit that helps homeless people find apartments. They currently have an unorganized system of paper lists and their individual knowledge of local apartments that accept assistance. I’m looking to create a website that would have a list of those apartments that you could filter by apartment size, type of assistance accepted, etc. It would also be nice to have a ‘sort by’ function for price, but that’s less necessary.
Is something like this possible on WordPress? I admittedly have no experience with this, but a website sounds like the perfect way to go about creating this database. Very open to suggestions (help lol)!

The Directories Pro plugin would probably be a good way to achieve that:

https://directoriespro.com/
You could use WordPress and purchase theme that provides some of this functionality. Here are some, but I don’t know which are best:

If they don’t meet your needs, you’re looking at using custom fields and a filter plugin to create and display the database.
I would use ACF / MetaBox + FacetWP / WP Gridbuilder. Alternatively, Toolset.
It is definitely possible and not super-difficult, but if you have no experience with WordPress you will have to learn quite a bit. You will need to understand such concepts as CPTs, custom fields and taxonomies.
The way I’d do it is with acf pro for your post data and fields. Then you’ll need to create the template for your listing and archives. Then wp filter everything for the search and filter functionality. Ultimate control this way.

Honestly, you could do this the easy way or you could do this the hard way.
But since you are working for a cause that I truly support because I understand how it feels to be down on your luck, while the world turns a blind eye.
You should use Elementor and Elementor Pro.
The plugins you will need to achieve this functionality you can get from a plugin maker that is Elementor based to make things easier for you.
use the following plugin:

Sure there are even more advanced directory plugins, but what I am sharing with you, will meet all your requirements.
The key word was “local apartments” so this plugin is all you need and is pretty and used with Elementor, and Elementor pro, you are good to go.
Jetengine is good for this. Comes as part of the JupiterX theme
