Hey, am looking for a plugin that does not cost loosing good rankings with SEO, but does mean readers will only get to read a little of the blog post and will then be forced to sign up / register to read more. Has anyone any ideas how to make this happen ?

Don’t obsess over SEO. It’s a constantly moving target, and the best way to optimize it is to have a well-structured site instead of trying to “cheat the system.”
If the bots can read the entire article, people can also read it. It is very easy to bypass these plugins and get free content. Most will just put up a slash of some kind with CSS, and you can turn it off with the developer tools in your browser. There are also browser extensions that will remove paywalls unless you use something like MemberPress, where you have to log into the site to see any content.
So once you make peace that you won’t be able to gatekeep your content 100%, there are numerous plugins to choose from that will do what you want.

The best way to evaluate plugins is to install them on a LocalWP environment and test them. If it’s a paid plugin, there are often demos or a 30-day trial.
