I’m working on a complex project and I could really use some advice from the WordPress community. Our non-profit organization is in the process of building a multimedia database WordPress website whose code and content recognizes best practices in linguistics, ontologies, and taxonomies.
Background:
a. We began our journey with Pool Party who initially offered us a 90% discount on their license.
b. After a year of development, they backed out of the deal, and now we’re starting over.
c. Our main focus now is the weighting of search results and establishing relationships between entries.
Current Setup:
a. We have ACF Pro, Elementor Pro, and custom PHP to generate search results.
b. We’ve switched from individual search engines for different media types to a meta list of fields, hoping to weight results across all post categories (e.g., “video,” “audio”).
Example Requirement:
a. Imagine a Football website where we need unique fields for Players and Coaches.
b. Relationships must be shown, such as Player 1 and Player 2 being “Draft Picks,” or team locations like Boston, MA or Los Angeles.
c. Contextual maps will be included as a way to view and discover media.
Questions:
Is semantic search a viable option for this project, considering our unique requirements?
Are there best practices to manage relationships between entries effectively, like designating “Draft Picks” or locations?
What methods or plugins would you recommend for weighting search results, especially considering our very large database (7.5 GB total)?
Have you encountered similar challenges in your projects, and how did you overcome them?
I’m looking forward to hearing your insights and experiences.
Thank you in advance!
