Can someone please give me some pointers on how to create an event registration with a waitlist?

I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I'm a software dev and thought I'd be able to figure it out on my own, but I'm about to give up and just hire someone else to do it.

I've found plugins that sort of come close to doing what I want, but not entirely, and they're also expensive with yearly recurring payments for what I consider a very basic feature.

Basically I want this:

  1. Admin can register an event or create a regular post and use a block to generate the event.

  2. Admin can set max attendees number.

  3. The event post shows up in the regular blog post stream.

  4. When users register to the event, they get a confirmation message and an unregister link.

  5. When max capacity is reached, users can still register and be added to a waiting list.

  6. If users cancel their registration, the oldest registered "waitlist" person gets upgraded to attending, and get sent an email informing them.

  7. Admin can view all registered events and also signups and status' in each event.

I dunno, I feel this should be such a common thing, but the only thing I really find that comes close is The Events Calendar, but it's not really made to do what I want.

Any pointers on how difficult this is to achieve, or if I should just find pay a wordpress dev to do it?

I appreciate any helpful responses!

  1. The Events Calendar Pro is what you need. Pair with Events Tickets Plus and you are good to sell tickets, too.
