Changing plugin code to get around license

[ad_1]

I hope this is the right sub to ask this question. But if i change the source code for a plugin that has paid content behind a license code, to work around the code verification and enable all the features. is it illegal to do? as isn’t it technically open source?

context: i will use the plugin on a local only site for development and learning how to make my own plugins and add-ons. i just cant justify the price for when i’m still learning plugin development

  1. The plugin is licensed under GPL, so technically you can modify it as you would want to.

  2. I’ve found that reaching out to the developers often yields good results. They’ve been where you are. Talking directly to them may get you insight, open doors and at minimum be a more honest path.
