Classic Themes

[ad_1]

Would it hurt me in the future if I proceed with learning to develop classic themes? I see that WordPress is pushing hard towards block themes and I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot future-wise – if that’s the way WordPress is going, perhaps it would be best to learn custom block theme development instead? Please and thank you.

  1. I don’t know what WordPress will look like in the future. But at the moment hardly anyone is using FSE themes. Look at the install numbers of the most popular ones. And compare to the popular classic themes.

I have been using WordPress since 2013, and I find FSE themes very unintuitive.

  2. There are hundreds millions of older, established sites with classic themes. Including tens of millions of custom-coded ones. So classic themes will probably never completely go away.
