Creators locked content?

[ad_1]

Hi,
We recently had our website created by an outside company. We are now noticing fixes that need to me made and are no longer under contract.

For a majority of things, I have been able to do myself. But, for example, the social media icons…. I need to add a few more option and have searched everywhere in the backend and can not find them anywhere. They are at the bottom of our page, but none of this content seems to be where I can find it or where it should be based off of google searches.

I just want to made simple fixes. Is it possible that they locked this so that we can not see it ourselves?
Also, is there a way to search for a word through the backend for the whole site and not have to go into individual sections to search?

Thanks!

  1. It may under something like “Header Navigation” or “Footer Navigation” in your pages page. I doubt anything is locked or restricted for you if you have the ability to make other edits.

  2. Hard to know exactly what’s going on without alink to the site.

If you’re an Admin you’ll be able to see WordPress Dashboard > Appearance > Theme File Editor.

The code to add social icons is probably in the footer.php file.

It’s not uncommon to “hardcode” elements in the theme files which would make it seem like the creators locked the content. In reality they probably quickly built the site without developing features that allow you (or anyone without coding experience) to manage everything from the WordPress Dashboard.
