I work for a small company and we are looking to update our WordPress eCommerce site with our current web developers. They are proposing two options for the theme development. Either they customize the theme or we use a ready made theme like Astra or GeneratePress.
The cost difference is quite significant between both options (almost double for the custom option). They mentioned that the custom option would enhance the SEO (moreso than the ready made option) and be more secure than the ready made theme. I'm sure this is true but I don't know to what extent it is or if it's worth the money to go for a custom theme.
I don't have a web development background and would really appreciate your help or insights here to help me decide on how to proceed or if any of you have dealt with similar experiences.
