Deprecated theme and no support

[ad_1]

So this is a really old website and we were using a theme called BurgerHouse version 1.0 by RollThemes. Rollthemes do not exist right now so obviously no update for the theme. Now the website works fine with a few issues locally on php version 7.4 but our hosting now only provides 8.1 and above.

Is there a way I can update the theme myself to remove deprecation issues or is there an other way around.

We were a few times in the same situation with obsolete themes (which are not updated anymore) with high security and crash risk. Believe me, in order to avoid many possible issues, the only logical and long-term smart decision for you and your client – is to make a rebuild of his site in a modern tools/themes that are regularly updated e.g. like multipurpose themes OceanWP, or Neve, plus you can customize them in some page builders of your preference (e.g. we do it in elementor and WPBakery), or you can try Gutenberg/blocks approach.

  2. Unless you know that theme inside out, and have audited it for any security issues, you should move to a new theme. Abandoned themes one of the common ways sites get hacked. And being forced to use deprecated version of php is an instant “do not use”.

If the theme used a page builder, you can make the change over less of a burden by using a theme with the same page builder.

The same rules applies to plugins.
