Do you usually build clients websites with multisite?

[ad_1]

What I mean by this is, do you build all of your websites as subsites from the multisite plugin on your localhost?

This is probably a silly question for those who know WordPress better than I, but I’ve been working with multisite just to learn the ropes and create a couple different websites.

The problem lies with migrating functionality. I’ve been trying to use the All-In-One WP migrating plugin, but it doesn’t seem to work when you have multisite enabled. There is a version you can buy that remedies this, but it was over $300 for an annual subscription, and I’m just concerned with migrating individual sites.

So what do you guys do? Thanks for any and all help.

  1. I have never tried to build a multisite personally, because you can encounter various issues along the way. Some plugins don’t support multisites. And then you will have a facepalm situation. In my experience, it has never been worth it, but your mileage may vary.

  2. I’ve used WPMS pretty extensively and currently have a multisite instance running 50-60 sites for clients. I don’t really recommend it unless all those clients have VERY similar site requirements. I had another installation with 25 or so website and I ended up breaking them apart into individual websites.

  3. I run a multisite but not for clients.. yet. I am thinking of building premaid dropship and affiliate stores to rent to people. You should be comfortable with pulling a site from the multisite and have backups. I do think its more risky for clients but if they know up front and you charge decent for it then why not.
