Newbie Site Speed Question

[ad_1]

When I run GTMetrix, my travel blog website gets an A and site speeds of 300-475ms, which looks great, but when I look at Google Search Console, I get a completely different picture. They say that I have over 200 posts with a load LCP of over 2.5 seconds…which is POOR.

If the latter is correct, how do I improve my LCP to improve SEO? And since that metric is from Google, it seems like it’s more important. What is the difference? What am I missing?

I have some posts that get the number 1 spot on Google, but most rank at about 20th or lower. I want to move the needle!!!!

Other than hiring a few people on Fiverr, I’ve created my own site on a shoestring budget…so I really don’t know.

Any thoughts?

  1. since you posted a performance related question in this group I assume that site is built with WP. If so, WP is known for a slow performance. That’s why this platform is for those who are “on a shoestring budget”. If you want your site to perform faster you need to migrate it into more robust tech stack such as Web Components, Lit, React, etc front end and Node on the server-side. If you’re staying with WP look into obvious things: server config, file minification, combining into chunks, lazy-loading, cdn hosting… etc. As far as GTMetrix vs your Browser’s console – I would trust the browser more.

  2. Type “how do I improve my LCP to improve SEO” into google – there are tons of tutorials on how to do it that aren’t worth repeating here.

As for why there’s a difference – such a large discrepancy does seem odd. I’m wondering if there’s a caching issue going on? We’d need to see the reports to be able to offer any advice.

  3. Google search is aggregating data from all your visitors, some of them are using very slow connections.

Pretty much most of my sites have this issue
