Does Site Kit automatically convert WordPress admins to site owners?

[ad_1]

Here's the situation. I just set up a site for a client. My email address is the admin contact.

I set up Google Site Kit for the client. Almost immediately, I get an email saying that the client was just added as a site owner, which I presume means he'll also get the Google Search Console updates. He said the site forced him to do this before he could see data from the plugin.

So, is this something that happens to all WordPress admins now? They get elevated to site owners by Site Kit, without being designated as such by the existing site owner?

This is very bad. There's all sorts of reasons you might want someone as a site admin, but not a site owner. Particularly because my mostly elderly, unsophisticated clients are going to be getting emailed warnings from Google Search Console which they do not understand and might not even be relevant, but they're going to come screaming to me that their site is broken.

If this is really the way things work now, I'm guess I'm done with Site Kit.

  1. Your client ran through the site kit set up, for some reason. By default it doesn’t show wp site admins stats. You need to allow that in the site kit settings.
