Hello!
I am super new to website building and am posting here because I have no idea what I should actually be looking for right now. Please do not be afraid to explain it to me like I'm 5.
I purchased a domain last year through IONOS, and connected it to a website that I built using tumblr. This was always meant to be a placeholder for a better website once I had time to build it.
This year, I built my new website on WordPress and transferred the domain to be hosted through WordPress. However, when I type in the URL – it takes me to a tumblr error page saying that that site no longer exists.
How do I get my domain to point to the right site?

I’m guessing this is on wordpress.com. Then you need to point your DNS to wordpress.com!

as u/Yaznas advised, DNS is your problem.
Once you provide the new name server pair, you can check the progress with [dnschecker.org](http://dnschecker.org)
If your website and domain is hosted on same platform simply change domain name servers to default. Its done 👍
