Easiest way to migrate site to a different domain?

[ad_1]

I'm building a website currently for my fiance to replace her current more basic site. Not having much experience I purchased a domain from Hostgator to learn and build the new site.

Both sites are hosted with Hostgator using WordPress

I am using Elementor Pro with WordPress for my current site, and I was wondering what the best way would be to delete the content on her current site and replace it with the website I've built her? I'd like to keep all the content/formatting from my site but transfer it to the domain she has all of her branding tied to and get rid of the "practice" domain I built the site on.

I was looking into All-In-One WP migration?

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

  1. Yes, a plugin such as ~~AIO WP Migration~~, Updraft Plus, or Duplicator should work fine.

  2. I can migrate your website with All-In-One WP.
I have the paid version, unlimited size.

  3. Big thumbs up for All In One Migration tool! You can increase the upload size of your WP installation from the files, so you wont need to buy some Pro version of it.

  4. Migrate guru. It’s the best and quickest, most pain free option I’ve used. Seriously try it.

  5. I’ve done it recently without any plugin.

    1. I exported the wordpress installation in a zip file as well as the database script with table definitions, data etc
    2. I extracted the installation zip in public_html
    3. Created a new database and executed the script
    4. Updated the wp-config.php file with the updated database details and credentials
    5. Updated the nameservers of the domain to point to the new hosting

  6. I don’t use hostgator or similar shared hosting so idk maybe they have internal migration tool. Such as siteground has their migration tool.

But if not that, the easiest I find is using a backup plugin. Wp vivid for example. Install on both sites . Either use their migration tool. Or take backup from one site. And upload onto another. And done.

  7. Duplicator Pro is the best. As a professional, I used to migrate everything myself. But since I’ve been using it, it has become my number 1 choice. Never problems everything is clean, and it works!

  8. Whatever approach you end up taking to achieve this, please make sure you backup everything! Including the old site. I’d recommend keeping a copy for a while too, just in case there are unforeseen issues down the road.

I’ve seen it once where a site was built, then replaced the old version, 2 months later they realised there were loads of issues with SEO and meta data causing the site to be deindexed. Unfortunately the old version was deleted already, so there was no going back or having a point of reference to fix the issues.

Edit: of course there may be an alternative solution depending upon your particular situation – don’t migrate the site, only change the URL, then point the domain DNS records to your server. If this is an option for you there’s no heavy lifting involved and it typically takes around 30 minutes to propagate across

  9. I’m a big fan of WP Migrate DB Pro, and use that often shuffling sites around between servers and different domains for dev/testing purposes.

  10. You don’t need to migrate at all. You can simply point the domain to the new site.
