Hey there, I want to build a website for a friend using wordpress for the first time. I mostly write backend code for a living but also do some extra front end work occasionally, so generally I know my way around web development.
I am used to building whatever I need on my machine and then deploying it to production. What is the equivalent of this on wordpress? From what I have gathered until now, all the development happens on the server that will ultimately host the website, with the possibility to have an “Under construction” page published untill it’s ready. Currently the domain is served with the previous website I am going to replace and I don’t want to break that until I have a finished website. I have build some dummy websites on a wordpress docker container on my local server. I have a plan of building the website there, exporting it and then importing it (somehow) on the production server when it’s ready. Would you say that’s a good idea? What would be your advice on this?
Also, I have picked [this template]) as the one I am going to use, as it’s 99% of what I imagined for this website. Is Envato Market any good?
Any other tips or tricks?
thanks!

You can use a local environment called ‘Flywheel by Local’ – [https://localwp.com/])
Yes, I’ve known a few people use Envato Market, although each theme differs, so I can’t say for sure if that one would suit your needs!
Build the site wherever you like (subdomain, localhost, etc). Then use a plugin like this one to migrate it when it’s time to go live:
Best tip for first timers. Advice your friend to get some decent hosting. Patato hosts are bad mmkaay.
