GFW_Report Has Generated 251 URLs with Alternate Page with Proper Canonical Tag

[ad_1]

According to the Google Search Console report, my blog displays a compilation of 251 URLs labeled as “alternate pages with appropriate canonical tags.” It’s interesting to note that each of these 251 URLs has a “gfw\_report” parameter within the URL path, which is then followed by the page identifier. For instance:

[https://www.example.com/?gfw\_report=1112page%2F2%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage%2F3%2Fpage%2F2%2Fpage/2/])

Such links as above are duplicated a total of 251 times throughout my blog (according to GSC tool).

Another thing is that when I navigate to the custom field feature of a post, I discover the following parameters available as options in the dropdown menu:

gfw\_report

gfw\_adblock,

gfw\_event\_id,

gfw\_label,

gfw\_location,

gfw\_url,

gfw\_video

After conducting online research, it appears that these URLs are likely being generated by a plugin. The plugin in question is named “GFW,” which may stand for “Great Firewall of China.” I’ve never had of such a plugin and I have never installed a plugin with such a name. However, to the best of my knowledge, I have not intentionally installed this plugin. It is conceivable that the plugin’s settings were bundled with another plugin, potentially as bloatware. Or it could be the codes are remnants of a previously installed plugins.

In my quest for resolution, I reached out to the theme provider, who diligently examined the theme and confirmed that the issue is unrelated to the theme itself. Their recommendation was to scrutinize the installed plugins and locate the problematic one for removal. I followed their advice by deactivating all plugins and then reactivating them one by one in an attempt to pinpoint the culprit for eventual removal. Regrettably, this approach did not yield the desired results.

I also suspect that it is possible that the root of the issue may be linked to some ad publisher code that I introduced to my site earlier last month. I remember, uninstalling the plugin ten minutes later after noticing the kind of ads it was displaying on my site which are contrary to the principles I uphold. Subsequently, I uninstalled the plugin and removed its code from the root directory of my WordPress site.

Kindly help me resolve this issue.
