Giving up on elementor

[ad_1]

I’ve been using elementor for a year now but my experience hasn’t been the best. My subscription is about to run out so I seriously need to consider whether I’ll continue.

1. Page speed is so terrible
2. I just found out my page doesn’t fully load for people and not sure why. So many features are missing and it’s just becoming so overcomplicated having to download different plugins to try and make it work but it’s becoming a mess.
3. SEO went to pits once I moved to elementor and I’ve done a lot to try and fix it but to no avail.
4. My favicon doesn’t even show up on Google

Is there anyway to transfer what I’ve already built? Starting from scratch again will be awful but I do not plan on renewing. Any advice or better site builders to use? Please bear in mind I’m not the most advanced/skilled website builder.

  1. I’ve begun working with Oxygen and considering migrating to that in the future. On a fresh install of WordPress on a VPS, and just installing one of the Oxygen demo sites, it scored a 92 for mobile out of the box on PageSpeed Insights.

  2. I don’t think you’ll be able to transfer to something else from Elementor unless you remake the site. I’m currently in the same boat as you. I had an older subscription of Elementor Pro for $25/year (50% off renewal), and after seeing how they handled their hosting and new pricing scheme, that was enough for me to want to leave. Their updates also tend to break sites, and if your client doesn’t want a subscription to their plan, then you have to buy them a year sub just to get some updates which may or may not fix the site’s issues.

Ended up switching to Bricks Builder w/ AutomaticCss for the time being. It’s not as easy to use as Elementor, but after watching some lessons and making a few practice sites, I am close to being on the same skill level as I was with Elementor.

  3. I had the same issues, mainly due to the starting themes on siteground running it and OceanWP theme.

That was a few years back, elementor was easy enough for me to hand the sites to the client after finishing them, but not easy enough for them not to make the sites look like horror shows with fonts, text weights and popups

I moved to Blocksy and Kadence blocks and I’m happy and never looked back. Sites are a lot quicker and once you get used to Gutenberg and high quality block plugins like Getwid and Kadence Pro it’s just as easy as elementor.

The final straw for me was when Elementor had a vulnerability and my site got affected by it and infected.

  4. I’m sorry you’ve been having so much trouble with Elementor. Unfortunately you’ll have to do at least a little rebuilding no matter what alternative you switch to. The good news is that at least Elementor (like Beaver Builder, Gutenberg, and a few other modern builders) “degrade gracefully” when deactivated. That means that most if not all content will still be available in a single “classic” text module. You can then use whatever comes next to block the page back out into columns.

You *will* need to replace content in “complex” modules/widget/blocks like forms, countdown timers, but even then some of the major elements (headings, photos, body text) may be preserved.

There are a number of great alternatives to Elementor, though not all of them are as usable for ordinary non-expert builders. Since you already know Elementor’s interface you might want to try the BreakDance builder. BreakDance models itself on the Elementor interface while also paying actual attention to performance, security, and backwards compatibility. So I’m pretty sure you’ll still have to rebuild pages you’ll at least have a very good idea how to do it.

  5. How fast elementor loads will be dependent on how much you know about hosting and optimization. I have built websites with elementor that loads incredibly fast. For my SEO clients I avoid elementor.
