Hello. I come from a joomla background, and although I’ve been occasionally working with WordPress for close to 10 years, I always struggle with cloning sites on my test environment.
With joomla I just copy the code and database, then modify the configuration file and it works.
With WordPress I copy the code and database, modify the config file, and get white pages, redirects, broken images, etc.
I’m aware there’s a config value for the base URL, but it never seems to work simply changing it. I end up digging through the database changing absolute URLs and wrestling with serialization lengths and a whole lot of other mess.
Certainly with so many people using this every day there must be an easier way? I’d like to not spend hours each time I need to set this up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
