Good afternoon WP community,
I’m a brand new WP Dev, and I built my first website 95% by myself.
The other 5% was when I hired a freelancer on Fiverr to do the theme installation.
He installed the theme, and i noticed it was super slow.
I have enhanced the websites performance significantly, however….
How can I avoid this in the future? How can i tell if the theme i like on themeforrest is fast or slow?

If it’s for sale on ThemeForest there’s a good chance it is loaded up with features you don’t want or need as the themes there are often bloated in an attempt to appeal to a mass market.
Find a good quality minimal theme and it should serve you well regardless of what kind of site you are building. GeneratePress is a great example – [https://generatepress.com/site-library])
Fast local VPS or Dedicated server, also Image compression, the cause for 99% of wp sites being slow.
The easiest way to avoid slow themes is to not buy a theme. Paid themes include the kitchen sink and you really don’t want that.
Try a minimalistic free theme that sort of looks the way you want and modify things from there.
GeneratePress IMO is the fastest and lightest theme out of the box.
To make sure the theme you are buying is to look at their demo version and run Google’s Page speed.
