How do I restore hostgator wordpress web page from zip file archivarix

[ad_1]

I managed to have malware mess up a web site. I’ve wiped it out and gone to Archivarix (yeah, I know I should have been doing backups, but dummy me didn’t!). I was able to create a backup from ARchivarix and it put it all in a \*.zip file.

I’ve gone to Hostgator where the hosting for the original site is. In the Cpanel I’ve opened the file manager and did a proper extract of the \*.zip file. That seemed to go well and in the public\_html folder, I do see the proper [website.com]) listed. In it, I do see the .htaccess file that Archivarix created, which I’m certain will need attention. There is also an index.php file there. I couldn’t find a readme.txt file that Archivarix alluded to.

The site has a proper, current, domain name. From here, I’m a babe in the wood and have no idea how to get the domain to play with the new file set.

If I try to go to the website in a browser it just shows: “It appears you don’t have
permission to access this page.

## 403 Error. Forbidden.”

If I try to go to the [website.com/wp-admin]) page, I get: “500 Internal Server Error error was encountered”

Is there a tutorial page that can take me from this point to get it working, or do I need to work with somebody at Hostgator to get this working?

Thanks all.

Dennis

  1. What files do you have in the ZIP? Do you have an SQL file? Without the SQL, you essentially have nothing.

  2. You can’t just restore a WP site from a web scraper like that. All you’ve got is a copy of the output, the application (WP+theme+plugins) that generated it and the database all the content and settings were stored in isn’t there. You’re going to have to recreate it manually using what you have as a reference.

  3. Did you wipe the database? If you did, you’re pretty much out of luck.

If not, you would need to install the actual WordPress PHP files (wordpress.org) and connect the old database. You’ll need to reinstall all of your plugin/theme files as well.

What you have now is just a messy static copy of the front end.

  4. ARchivarix won’t get a copy of the database, which is integral to doing a site restore. You could make a full cPanel backup and move to a host that offers free anti-virus instead of paying the $400 cleanup fee HostGator charges.
