How much do you charge for Monthly Maintenance?

[ad_1]

Hey all, I'm relatively new to freelancing. I plan on charging maintenance for client sites which includes my page builder license, hosting, as well as the typical maintenance tasks (updates, performance, uptime, security, etc).

I was thinking of charging $90 per month, but someone on a forum commented that thats too high and suggested that $50 would be more appropriate. I thought $90 would be appropriate since it includes use of my builder license AND hosting.

How much do you guys charge for monthly maintenance if you don't mind me asking?

  1. I have a hosting business, and one of my clients (also a freelancer) told me he charges anywhere between 50-250$ per month for maintenance. I know him on a personal level so that’s why I got this info.

Because some websites require more attention than others. I would do the following:

    1. Either do scope dependent and assess per client/website. (if it’s more dynamic than others I would incline to charge more.

    2. I would deffo up the price for E-commerce sites because if they run ads and the site breaks then they lose traffic and money which means you can add a clause for emergency/hands-on fixes and lots of ecommerce companies pay premium for that.

    3. Productize the service and offer a SaaS subscription in 3 tiers. Basic / Pro / Premium and map out the key difference between the efforts/tasks you do every month.

Always remember that a lot of clients will pay for convenience and better clients understand the value. They want to be able to sleep at night knowing a professional is monitoring their website.

  2. First off, how long does each site take you to do, and do you have to have it done by a certain date? You’re calculating your hourly rate here, sure, but also how sustainable it is. For example, if each site takes about an hour and clients expect it to be done at the beginning of the month, then you’ve pretty quickly built an albatross around your neck and you probably want to charge a lot more (or adjust your model). If you can fully automate it, then that might be a reasonable price.

The other thing is that you’re including hosting and the page builder license in that. Can your pricing be updated if either of those raise their price on you, or do those clients expect to pay $90 forever?

For me, I sell hosting separately and include updates and the page builder license in that. Then, for manual maintenance, I charge $50/month.
