How to provide very specific reader features?

I’d love to add the feature that allows my readers to confirm they have experienced something and can log it, whatever that specific article is about.

For example, if I had a website about spiders and I wanted readers to be able to click that they have encountered a specific species, so that the article says ‘151 people have encountered this’, I would love to know how to go about implementing this! I use this example as I’m sure I have seen this on a website about insects before, and I don’t want to go into too much detail about my site for the time being.

Another example is how Rotten Tomatoes adds the combined score for a movie- consisting of all the individual readers scores for that specific movie article when readers rate it.

Basically, I’d like some general info on how to have a tally on my website articles for when readers would like to participate on a certain article. I still have thoughts about what this would consist of exactly.

I would really appreciate any help with this.

  1. I’d recommend the plugin Favorites By Kyle Phillips! You can relabel it pretty easily. I used it before on a website for shortlisting products, let isers see a list of their shortlisted goods and has the option to see “shortlisted X times” on each product page

Pair it with font awesome and it’s very powerful!
