I think I made a rookie mistake.

Please help!!

I’m starting an endeavor. I made a free “name.wordpress.com” site to try stuff out. Decided I wanted to go ahead and pay to make it a “name.com” site. WP had a series of steps laid out in the form of a checklist that I followed — the next step was to get the domain. Cool! Paid $12 bucks for the domain from WP that they directed me to.

Now I have a “name.wordpress.com” site and a “name.com” domain, but they aren’t the same thing. WP wants me to upgrade to a paid account to link a domain I own to the site I designed. THE UPGRADE INCLUDES A FREE DOMAIN NAME. I already paid for a domain name through WP!

It’s just $12, but is there anything I can do? Sorry if this question has been asked before, and thanks in advance for any help!

  1. Use the domain with the wordpress.org on a reputed hosting solution. If you are just trying out, then its a good time to learn. DM me, i can help

  2. Use name.com as your site host as well. Drop WordPress.com. Name.com has wordpress hosting options that are great. Been using them for years.

  3. Download the database from free WordPress site and upload it to the paid one link it up and it should work
If you have any related media files do the same for them in respective folders

  4. So wordpress_com fobiddens you to connect the new domain with your current plan.
