I volunteered to update a website and found it was in WordPress

Yikes, it look archaic compared to Wix or what I’ve been using with my GoDaddy website. Is there a way I can make it more user friendly to edit? I’m not going to run away from the challenge, but it is a non-profit I don’t want to increase their costs.

  1. Just to be clear, you’re talking about the WordPress User Interface, not the non-profits website itself?

If that’s correct, WordPress allows you to change the color of the elements, giving it a “theme”. Additionally there are a few plugins that change the the structure of the editor (I think there is one called “Admin Menu Editor” or something that let’s you change the sidebar content to your liking).

  2. It depends, it seems obvious WordPress isn’t your wheelhouse but you’re still trying to provide a solution. What about their current website is priority right now for a better experience? WordPress interface is pretty easy once you get used to it, just find a how to guide via YouTube or a website like WP beginner and it should give you an idea of capabilities perhaps.
