Hey guys, I have a quick question for anyone who has experience with designing websites for clients.
I’ve recently started my own freelance business, mainly for graphic design but I’ve been recently getting a lot of requests for website design.
I’m very new to this but using a theme I purchased, I was able to put together my own site to advertise my services and get the basics down for WordPress.
I’ve recently got in contact with a company that currently has a WordPress website and wants a re-design.
My question is, **is there a way for me to design a “demo” site on my domain, and then import it onto their account.** I’m a little nervous about working directly on their account while the site is actively being used in case I run into any issues.
I’ve created demos via my WordPress account just to show concepts to clients, but I ended up re-creating it once getting the credentials to their account.
Their current website also doesn’t use the theme I’m familiar with and I’m also wondering if installing that theme will cause their current site to be reset to the default site from the theme I’m planning on using.
Long story short, I’m trying to refrain from causing any issues with their current WordPress website while I’m doing my redesign.
I’m very new to this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There are many ways to approach this.
The easiest (IMO) is to create a staging version of their site (most hosting services support this out of the box) and work from there. Once the client has approved the new site, you can push it to the live site.
If you are keen on building on your own site (subdomain) you can do that and use a migration plugin like All in one WP Migration to move the site from your subdomain to their site once you are done.
You should probably do some trial migrations from localhost to a live host of your own a couple of times to be familiar with the process.
All the best 👍🏽
