We’re a small business trying to create a new landing page for our site; I have experience with Wix site design and I know the basics of SEO. I’d like to try and do it myself to save our company money on this, but is this a bad idea for someone without any coding knowledge?
Agency quoted us about $4,000 for a single page – not sure if that’s a good price or not as it seems a bit high for a basic landing page

$4000 seems a bit steep for ONE page so make sure it’s not for a 5 page site… However, if you know what you are doing, and have the branding together for the business – you can dive into it yourself. Remember this is the face of the business, so you want it to reflect it correctly…
Wix is very different from WordPress. So I wouldn’t rely on this kind of experience when building in WP.
I work in SEO and can tell this is a valuable skill. But then again – SEO is not the same as building a page.
Considering this agency is asking for $4000 to put up a page, I would definitely look into building this page myself.
May I ask what tech stack you’re currently using on your site? Are you using a page builder? (Elementor, e.g.)
4K for a single page is way out of reasonable scope. I own a small agency, give me a shout, I’m sure I could do it for considerably less – and you’d have a full stack dev at your disposal.
I’m a fan of mobirise for boring static pages. If you can sort out domains it’s a reasonable temporary page. Google Sites serves a purpose too.
If your company already has an active WordPress site and you just want to add a new landing page then $4000 is high. That said there are landing page designers who charge far above that price.
If you back up the site properly first and just make a new page without touching much else, you shouldn’t end up causing much damage. It won’t be as easy as making a WIx site though. You’ll at least want to watch a few tutorials on building a WP landing page before setting off.
If it’s an existing WordPress site, adding a new page should probably be more like $500.
You can learn the basics of WordPress in a few hours but until youve actually designed a site, it’s a little intimidating.
Watch a few YouTube videos and see if it’s something you think you could do. It could save you $4000.
If you’re new to WordPress it can take a little time to learn how to edit pages but it’s really not that hard. Hundreds of millions of DIY site owners have done it with just a “for dummies” book or YouTube tutorials.
As for the price, you have to decide if you could make more money building it yourself vs delegating and spending the time making sales or managing processes.
An experienced author can easily add a WordPress page in somewhere between a few minutes and an hour if you provide the design, text, and images. A beginner will take longer.
Ask that agency for a full breakdown of their estimate. The first site I worked on, an agency proposal included bringing in a literal movie color consultant. From Hollywood! My friend and I got the job instead. So for $4000 for a single page that agency should be including a membership. For you, I mean, not them.
Like others have said, $4k seems very steep…even with some advanced functionality. If it would be helpful, send me a message and I can try to help you navigate this
4K is a large sum for the task.
If you really wanna create something as you mentioned above.
Here is my suggestion,
1. Install WordPress
2. Install Elementor
3. Install Astra Starter templates
4. Find a template design from it which matches your needs
5. Import it make changes.
Or reach out to us and we can discuss your project further.
What needs to be in the page? I’m cheaper than that sadly.
With elementor pro you should be able to pick it up. I have elderly clients that can handle it no problem.
