I’ve used gallery/lightbox plugins in the past, but now that I’m using Gutenberg blocks and Kadence blocks, I just wonder if a lightbox modal isn’t already baked in somewhere if I just knew the right code to drop in functions.php to activate it.
It seems like there would be since the gallery block options are pretty limited without that functionality. Linking to an attachment page or just opening up a single image in the browser window are basically options nobody really wants, right?

It’s a little buried in the menus if you are using Kadence.
Appearance -> Customize -> General -> Performance -> Enable Lightbox
