Issue: Three Taps to Play YouTube Video on Mobile

[ad_1]

I’m using the YouTube Embed Plus plugin to embed YouTube videos. I’m using the Soliloquy slider to present images. The code for these is minimized, but not combined, deferred delayed or anything else. I use the Astra theme. I load the YouTube videos with the max res default facade image. Videos can be accessed with two click on desktop just fine. The first loads the player and the next plays the video. Loads the same way if in landscape mode on a mobile device. However, in portrait mode in a mobile device I have to tap the video three times. The first tap turns the play button red, the second loads the player, and the third plays the video. Stranger still, in portrait mode, if I tap anywhere else on the screen and then tap the video, the player loads and then I just need to tap it once more to play the video. Works like this in both Safari and Chrome on my iPhone. And finally, I only seem to have this problem on pages that have YouTube videos and a Soliloquy slider. Videos load as expected (ie, two taps) on pages where a video is embedded with no slider.

Any help/thoughts/shared experiences appreciated.

  1. Sounds like an element is overlapping the video. First click removes this element…

First, check if it’s ok on an android phone. iPhone are notorious for being dicks about stuff like video and parallax. If it’s ok on android – I’d accept it – because solving it could be a bitch.

If it’s broken on android… open it in safari, and right-click the page… INSPECT it, and see what it actually there… stepping through the dom-tree (the divs and elements) will highlight them… and you’ll probably find something overlaying the video… then you can focus on that – what’s generating it (e.g. the slider, or the menu etc.) – and disabling/adjusting it.

  2. First, thanks for the reply. I checked on my wife’s Android phone, and it worked fine with no issues. I feel silly for not thinking of that myself, lol. Agreed. It’s not worth burning the house down to clean up that last little bit. Thank you again for the reply.
