I know it’s not a strictly related question to WordPress, but I think it’s the closest community where I can ask for help.
I’m working for a client to which I suggested to subscribe to the start-up plan on siteground for their landing page and gave them the instructions to add me as a collaborator.
Today they replied said that they followed my instructions and gave me the invitation to join, but they had to use a 1 month free trial to invite me as a collaborator on top of the startup plan (?).
What trial are they talking about?
From my dashboard on siteground I can’t see any payment, are they paying an extra to have a collaborator?
It’s actually the first time I’m using this service (it was suggested by everyone online so I went for it), so I have no clue what free trial is talking about.

Seriously? You are lying to get customers and want us to bail you out? Let me guess, you are on Fiverr? This is one of them most disgusting posts I have ever seen.
Oh dear
You’re right that it would be better to ask on /r/hosting or a similar subreddit, but it would be even better to ask SiteGround support. The client absolutely should not have needed to add another free trial to add a collaborator on their Startup plan. (Maybe 2-3 years ago, but not for years.)
I often recommend SiteGround for my WordPress clients as one of several options I recommend when they want to change hosts. Generally speaking I walk them through the setup process over the phone and then ask for their login info so that I can finish setting them up. As part of that process (with their permission, obviously!) I set myself up as a collaborator.
One reason they might not have been able to add you as a collaborator could be if their account isn’t fully setup. The collaboration option doesn’t really “kick in” till there’s an associated Site Tools panel available for the site. So you might want to get in touch with the client again, have them get you logged in, and then, if necessary, have their support get you straightened out.
The good news is you can also clear up that extra, unnecessary trial package.
Oh, one final possibility: it’s *possible* to get a SiteGround account with no actual hosting packages. (For instance I have one for all my collaboration sites.) So another possibility would be that they thought they’d signed up for hosting and the trial they setup was their *first* hosting plan.
Again, you’ll have to get their login to check.
Once you get through the process once you won’t have to fake your knowledge again. (Generally a very bad practice, obviously. Though not 100% unforgivable if you’ve worked with multiple other hosting companies in the past. It’s easy to imagine you can fake it when working with your 10th or 20th host… and if they’re all cPanel or Plesk sites you’re probably fine. Untill you hit something like SiteGround, WPEngine, Kinsta, etc., that use their own systems.)
Don’t worry about the naysayers. We all have to learn things the first time. (you should not have used the word faked, though)
I’m not sure the client understands what they did – I have a lot of experience with Siteground but I don’t know of any SG plan which would require using a one-month free trial to add a collaborator.
Then again, I don’t know everything – maybe I will learn something today.
