I am not sure what I did wrong but it scared the shit out of me. I managed to install a kadence theme (UR Band) on a staging site (thanks god) and the theme took over my homepage in the sense of it overwrote all my stuff with the theme. Not just applying all the colors, fonts etc but literally replaced the page. I will need to upload my backup but why is this? Apart of the fact that I steel have no clue about the colorscheme applied on the theme etc…
So any advice on how to avoid shit like this would be appreciate. Apart of the fact that kadence behaves completely different as the normal templates: you cannot click on your logo and then the templates menu comes up. I have no clue where to find other colorschemes within the template to change it…

Themes are what control everything that you have mentioned and changing from one to another, this is expected behavior. That is why you have to do it on a staging site and re-work everything [https://kinsta.com/blog/change-wordpress-theme/](https://kinsta.com/blog/change-wordpress-theme/)

It sounds like you not only installed/activated the Kadence THEME, but also installed/activated one of Kadence’s STARTER TEMPLATES, which would have also imported all kinds of ‘dummy’ placeholder text and photos. You would then set about replacing all that content with your own. This is a shortcut when starting a new site, but is not what you should have done when merely replacing your existing theme with Kadence.
BTW, it’s entirely possible that your original Homepage and its contents still exist, and can possibly be salvaged. From the Dashboard, go to Pages and look for that Page.
You loaded one of the templates in Kadence
