Hello! I have been trying to make my own wordpress theme for some months now.
I know HTML, CSS and a dabble of JS.
Last year I took a dive and tried to tinker around Elementor Pro but I found that I need to add more plug ins than I thought. And it breaks when you update because of some plugin incompatibility. Sure, I made a website but It didnt gave me the “confidence” that I feel when I make websites with just coding..
What I have in my mind right now is to be able to make a theme and also utelizing ACF plugin.
I have bought 2 wordpress theme building classes from Udemy already but.. I am having a hard time to absorb the lessons.
Do you have some good tutorial recommendations that are easy to follow?

What plugins were you using? I haven’t heard of plugin compatibility issues for almost a decade. Using unknown plugins from the repo, or out of date plugins will break wordpress. Keep everything up to date and only use well-known, and well maintained plugins and you won’t have issues.

Might be hard to hear but rather than trying a lot of different tutorials, try sticking to one till the end. Getting a theme started is not that hard to be honest. Do you have any specific problems you need help with? Maybe the issue is with HTML/CSS/JS fundamentals?
With that being said, I did the “Complete WordPress Theme &Plugin Development Course” by Zac Gordon. It was alright. But free YouTube videos will probably get you just as far. The only thing you really need is Google and Stackoverflow anyway.
Do you have access to LinkedIn:Learning (formerly [Lynda.com](https://Lynda.com))? They have several outstanding “build your own theme” courses that start from scratch and finish with a complete theme. The classes include reference files to save on typing. That’s how I learned, and the theme I built is going strong to this day!
