Legalities of Domain Registration

Clarify something for me: the best way to keep all domain ownership questions (about the domain) to a minimum is to first register the domain independently, and then point nameservers to the WordPress Site’s developer’s hosting… right?

That way, later on, if the relationship between the owner and developer is dissolved, the owner can ask the WP developer to just pack up the site and hand off the backup the files to take elsewhere for hosting…

Correct?

  1. The owner should always retain ownership of their domain. And a contract with the developer/agency should stipulate that the owner owns the site once it’s completed (and paid for). Without that, if a relationship goes sour, it’s possible for the dev to take the site down/delete it.
