Hey guys, I'm a complete newbie looking to create a page (to post mostly articles and writings of all sorts with a friend of mine). I'd assume this means I'm falling into the blog/media category? I've heard WordPress is the best way to go but I'm still a bit confused on wordpress.org vs wordpress.com
I understand that for wordpress.org the website builder (correct me if I'm wrong) is free while we need to get hosting externally – It doesn't seem to let me choose a host externally other than the recommended ones though. I don't mind choosing wordpress.com as a host (if they're not particularly slow or bad) but is it true that I can only run my own ads through adding multiple resellers etc. if I take their business plan for $25/month?
These are my requirements –
- I want to be able to run multiple ads on my site using both multiple resellers as well as google ads (am unsure how this works on WordPress, if they have to have the particular resellers plugin etc.)
- Will be posting about an article or two daily, each article would contain a few pictures, sometimes a video would be featured (not sure how this translates storage wise if its just a video link to YouTube vs uploaded)
- Aesthetic website build (maybe premium layouts etc. which is why I'm favoring WordPress premium)
- Somewhat decent loading speed for users
- As cost friendly as possible
- Examples of site's similar to what I want to run – says.com worldofbuzz.com and ladbible.com
Which route/combinations would you guys recommend me for my given requirements? Thanks a ton in advanced and apologies for the long winded post!

[Wordpress.com](https://Wordpress.com) uses WordPress (the free, open source software found on [Wordpress.org](https://Wordpress.org)) – however their version has various features disabled unless you pay for the higher tier plans – hence why 99% of people will recommend you don’t use [Wordpress.com](https://Wordpress.com) – go with literally any other host, so you’re free to do whatever you want with your site, including installing any plugins, themes and using whatever ad network you want.
As for what host to go with – r/webhosting is the best place to ask about that.
For your needs, [WordPress.org](http://WordPress.org) is likely the best fit. It offers more flexibility, especially for running multiple ads and integrating various ad resellers like Google AdSense. While you’ll need to handle hosting separately, it allows you to choose a provider that suits your budget and performance needs.

Hell, Starting a WordPress blog is a fantastic idea! Begin by selecting a domain name and a trustworthy hosting service that supports WordPress, such as Bluehost or SiteGround. Then, use the hosting service to install WordPress, which is typically a straightforward, one-click setup. After installation, choose a theme that suits your blog’s style, customize it to your liking, and add essential plugins like Yoast SEO for better search engine visibility and Akismet to manage spam. Finally, start writing about topics you’re passionate about and make sure to regularly update your blog with new content. Good luck with your blogging journey!
